NOTICE OF DEATH - ROY KENNEDY - 1937 - 2015

It is with regret that the Club has to announce the death of Roy Kennedy on 13 February in Spain at the age of 77.  Roy, who was elected as an Associate Patron Member in 1988, will be remembered in particular for the success achieved with Burke Ratcliffe Racing (BRR), of which he was Team Manager, in the heyday of Thundersports racing with the spectacular CanAm Lola-Chevrolet T530, winning the Championship in 1987 and 1988 with Ian Flux, Mike Wilds and Ian Taylor as the principal drivers.  With the advent of Supertouring cars in the BTCC, Roy Kennedy Racing became one of the leading independent teams, principally in 1992/1993 with Fluxie in a BMW M3 and Peugeot Mi16 and later with Chris Goodwin and a Vauxhall Cavalier in 1994.

In the early 1970s Roy ran Masami Kuwashima, David Purley and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud in Formula 2 and Formula 3 with notable success.  Later Roy’s association with the Yugoslavian driver Sead Alihodzic led to him becoming for a time Director of Yugoslavian Motor Sport before he reverted to running F3 cars for amongst others future F1 driver Philippe Streiff.

Condolences have been sent to Roy’s partner Jan.   Roy’s funeral will be a small private family service in Spain.
