The BRDC Library and Archive

The BRDC Library and Archive is a unique collection that charts the history of the Club, its members, Silverstone Circuit and motorsport more widely. From the very beginnings of the Club to the present day the collection illustrates how the BRDC and its Members have been active throughout the history of motorsport and continue as ‘Champions of British Motorsport’ to this day.

The BRDC Archive contains a range of material from race programmes and results, photographs, race regulations and entry forms, books, journals, business records, trophies, paintings and other printed material such as dinner menus from the Club’s annual dinners.

Prior to the museum opening in 2019, the BRDC Library and Archive Collection was stored in the Luffield Abbey Farmhouse. We now have a permanent home in purpose built facilities at the Silverstone Interactive Museum which opened in October 2019, funded by a major National Lottery Heritage Fund grant.

Having those stories unlocked, enables the museum to tell the story of the huge contribution of the BRDC to British motorsport within the exhibitions.

The collection is currently being digitised and will be used in future exhibitions and in the resources at the museum for the STEM learning programmes.

The museum aims to develop the Collections and Research Centre into a National Centre for British Motorsport collections.  Having this Centre at Silverstone and attracting a range of private collections will ensure the history of British motorsport is not broken up, or lost to this country.  Most of all it will ensure those stories can be told in the most authentic location – at the iconic Silverstone site.
