SILVERSTONE GETS TOP MARKS FOR EDUCATION VISITS

The Silverstone Study Centre has shown itself to be at the top of the class for educational visits after being awarded a Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge. The awards recognises the high standard of Silverstone’s interactive educational offering for children of all ages.

Awarded by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, the LOtC Quality Badge is the national benchmark for organisations with educational packages outside of the classroom, granted to those who have demonstrated excellence within their educational experiences and effective risk management.

Designed to make it easier for schools to identify providers of quality educational visits, the LOtC Quality Badge is a signal to teachers that the Silverstone Study Centre has met the six quality indicators required. Endorsed by The Outdoor Education Advisers’ Panel, their Local Authority members request that teachers look for the LOtC Quality Badge when planning educational visits.

The Silverstone Study Centre has tailored its educational guided tours of the venue to sections of the National Curriculum, taking pupils on an exciting and engaging journey, including the historical importance of the circuit and it’s transition from a WWII airfield into the British hub of motor sport that it is today.

In addition, the Silverstone Study Centre also offers classes in-keeping with aspects of Key Stage 1 to 3 History, Geography, Maths, English and Science, Key Stage 2 and 3 Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and Key Stage 4 and beyond Business Studies. The circuit has a unique offering, delivering educational material in a fun, legendary setting and providing a day that visitors won’t forget.

Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, said, “We are delighted that our educational programme has been awarded the LOtC Quality Badge, signifying the Silverstone Study Centre’s skill at delivering high quality learning experiences that young people will really benefit from. The wide variety of courses available at Silverstone are all taught to a high standard, that we are very proud of and it is fantastic to have this recognised. Combined with the new University Technical College (UTC), due to take pupils in September 2013, Silverstone is set on the path to become a centre for educational excellence.”

Beth Gardner, Chief Executive of the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, said, “Educational visits are among the most memorable experiences in a child’s school life.  The LOtC Quality Badge offers teachers a guarantee that not only is a venue providing the sort of educational value that they can build on in class long after the visit but they also have the appropriate risk management structures in place.

“Learning outside the classroom has many proven educational benefits. The LOtC Quality Badge will reduce red tape and provide assurance for schools, thereby ensuring that many more young people have memorable, exciting and valuable learning outside the classroom experiences. I congratulate the Silverstone Study Centre on being awarded the LOtC Quality Badge.”
