NOTICE OF DEATH - SID WATKINS

It is with regret that the Club has to announce the death of Professor Sid Watkins OBE, on Wednesday 12th September 2012.

Sid’s enormous contribution to the improvements to medical cover and safety in motorsport need no introduction to the BRDC. He was made an Honorary Member of the Club in 1991 in recognition of this.

Sid was instrumental in introducing many safety improvements in the sport. He served twenty-six years as the FIA Formula One Safety and Medical Delegate and was head of the Formula One on-track medical team. As trackside doctor, he played a major role in saving the lives of several grand prix drivers after heavy crashes. Sid worked in Formula One alongside his full-time job as a neurosurgeon at Whitechapel Hospital in London.

Condolences will be sent to his wife, Susan and funeral details will be publicised when known.

The Club regrets to report on the death of Neville Hay, who was elected as a BRDC Member in 1993
