MSV UNVEIL NEW BRDC F4 CAR

MotorSport Vision (MSV), organiser of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, today (Thursday 10 January) unveiled its brand new F4 car at the 2013 Autosport International Show in Birmingham.

The MSV F4-013, which has been built to a single specification by Ralph Firman’s RFR company, was revealed to invited media, guests, teams and drivers by MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer and BRDC President Derek Warwick.

Incorporating an advanced spaceframe chassis compliant with the latest FIA Article 277 safety standards, the new single seater is powered by a Cosworth developed 2 litre Duratec engine producing 185bhp and linked to a Sadev six-speed paddleshift transmission - making it the most sophisticated car at this level.

The new F4 car is equipped with front and rear wings, control tyres supplied by leading manufacturer Yokohama, AP Racing 4-piston brakes, the brand new Cosworth CFW277 steering wheel dash display and twin wishbone pushrod suspension.

Jonathan said: “In recent years racing drivers in the UK wishing to start a single seater career have not had the car or series they really wanted and we set out to address this with the BRDC F4 Championship. However, we were determined to provide not just a low cost single seater, but a great car in its own right.

“Teams liked the original F4 concept and specification. All 24 cars were sold within a month of its launch in September last year. Those teams, and indeed drivers, have waited patiently for our MSV F4-013 car to be revealed and I have no doubt they will be as thrilled as I am with the result. Ralph Firman Racing, working with our own MSV engineers, has produced a truly remarkable car that sets new standards. Never before has such a sophisticated single seater been available at such a low price.

“The stage is set for the BRDC F4 Championship to be an outstanding success and one that will produce the Jenson Buttons and Lewis Hamiltons of the future.”

Derek added: “The BRDC Formula 4 Championship gives us exactly what our sport is missing; reliability, slicks, wings, good horsepower and affordability. Most young drivers want to gain the right experience as quickly as possible before moving up the racing ladder and this is why the BRDC is backing F4 and MSV.”

All 24 F4 cars have already been sold to 14 teams and privateers ahead of the first rounds which take place at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in April. The first cars will be delivered to teams at the end of January based on the order in which they were purchased. For more information on the BRDC Formula 4 Championship visit www.formula4.com.
