NOTICE OF DEATH - PETER HETHERINGTON (1931 - 2016)

We regret to inform Members that Peter Hetherington passed away last Saturday, 27 August at the age of 85.  Older Members will recall that for many years Peter’s accountancy firm Rawlinson & Hunter were the BRDC’s auditors.  He acted as financial adviser to the Club and regularly attended General Committee and subsequently Board meetings through the 1950s and 1960s, culminating in the vital role which he fulfilled when Jack Sears and Gerald Lascelles were negotiating the acquisition of the freehold of Silverstone circuit from the Ministry of Defence in 1970/71.  In recognition of his substantial contribution to the evolution of Silverstone in its first two decades, Peter was elected as an Honorary Member in 1968 of which he was very proud.  He retained a keen interest in the affairs of the BRDC and was a regular presence at AGMs up to and including last year.

The BRDC extends its most sincere condolences to Peter’s family and colleagues.  A private family funeral is being held next week.
