BRDC SUPERSTAR TO JOIN ASTON MARTIN RACING

Young British sports car driver, Andy Meyrick, will be joining Aston Martin Racing for the fifth and final round of the 2010 Le Mans Series, the Autosport 1000 Km of Silverstone on 12th September. The event forms part of the new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup – the ‘world cup’ of international sports car racing organised by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.

Andy, who will turn 25 the week before the Silverstone race, will be driving the No. 007 Lola Aston Martin LMP1 prototype alongside Adrian Fernandez and Harold Primat who recorded an impressive second place finish in the opening round of the Series at Le Castellet earlier this year. Andy’s best result has without a doubt been his fourth place overall on his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June with Team ORECA.

“I’m really excited to be driving for Aston Martin Racing,” said the Cheshire-based driver. “It will be the first time I’ve driven for a British team since Carlin in F3 and, at yesterday’s test, I found that I fitted in pretty quickly.

“We did about 40 laps at Donington Park just so I could get comfortable in the car and check out the different systems in the Lola Aston Martin. This will be the third different prototype I’ve driven this year so I’ve been learning a lot of new steering wheel layouts! It’s also the first time this season that I’ll be running on Michelins tyres but it didn’t take long to get a feel for it again and I enjoyed the day a lot.”

Aston Martin Racing’s Team Principal, George Howard-Chappell, said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Andy to the team. We’ve already tested with him at Donington and he did a very nice job. He integrated himself well with the team and we are all looking forward to Silverstone.”

After the Silverstone event, Andy will be returning to the USA with Dyson Racing for the final round of the American Le Mans Series, the prestigious Petit Le Mans 1000 Mile race on 2nd October.
