Martin's interest in motor racing began during his schooldays, in the late 1950's. He eventually started 'active' racing in the mid '70's with his own business funds, (Bell and Colvill - Garage). He raced extensively throughout the '70's, '80's and '90's in ; AC Cobra/ Ford GT40/ Lola T222/ Maserati 300s and between 1988/91 in Ecosse C2 Car.

Martin has been a BRDC member since 1989 and a BRDC Director from 1992 to present.

Currently, Martin competes in 3-4 races per year with his Gulf Ford GT40.
