Career Description

Chris Marshall bagan his motor racing career in 1964. For the first four years he raced in saloons with cars such as the Ford Anglia and Cooper 'S'. In 1969 he drove a works Triumph Spitfire and won his Class in the Barcelona 12 hour race. He enjoyed further success in 1970 scoring three victories in a Lotus 23 based, Group 6 Sports Racing Car.

1971 saw Chris turn his hand to a new role as team owner. He ran the works March Formula 3 Team with drivers James Hunt and Brendan McInerney. In '72 his team contested the French F3 Championship with Jean-Pierre Jarier and Philip de Henning. Again in '73 he ran the works March F3 team, this time with driver Ian Taylor winning the Forward Trust F3 Championship.

Then in 1974 his team graduated to the F2 Championship running the Chevron works cars. The drivers at the wheel were James Hunt, Peter Gethin and Tom Pryce.

In 1975 and 1976 his team competed in the British Touring Car Championship with drivers Richard Lloyd, Shaun Jackson, Chris Craft and Michael Lavers behind the wheel of Opel Commodores.

As well as being a team owner Chris managed the career of Tom Pryce in his Formula One career with Shadow.  However Tom Pryce's tragic death prompted Chris' retirement from the sport in 1977.
