World GP drivers from the 1930s to 1990s line-up for a nostalgic celebration of 6 decades of Grand Prix on 30/31 July.
Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, Sir Stirling Moss OBE, John Surtees MBE, Johnny Herbert, John Watson, Jackie Oliver, Tony Brooks, Tony Rolt, Howden Ganley, Peter Gethin, Tim Parnell, Richard Attwood, Geoff Richardson and Tom Delaney all Grand Prix masters from the 1930s to the 1990s are set to head a cast of over 500 competitors to appear at the new-look Silverstone Classic.
Formerly the International Historic Festival the event takes its past traditional slot on the weekend of 30/31 July on the world-famous 3.144 mile Silverstone historic GP circuit to celebrate the event theme of 6 decades of Grand Prix.
In addition, 1930s to 1980s Grand Prix cars from Alfa Romeo, Arrows, Bentley, Brabham, BRM, Bugatti, Connaught, Cooper, Ensign, ERA, Ferrari, Hesketh, Lotus, Maserati, Matra, McLaren, Minardi, Surtees, Tyrell, Williams and Wolf will line up to race in the events most comprehensive programme of historic and classic motor sport.
17 races, with many already closed with full (44 car) grids, covering; TGP, HGPCA pre 1959 Sportscars and pre 1966 F1, Group C, GP Masters, HSCC Pre 1980 F1, F5000, F.Atlantic, BRDC 500 pre-war Sportscars, Historic F.Ford and F.Junior and many more will be overloading the huge paddock complex at Silverstone with two extra paddock areas already being created especially for the event. The 500 plus entry is set to be one of the worlds largest, and most valuable, gatherings of historic motor racing cars and all the paddocks are open FREE of charge to all visitors.
As well as 6 decades of Grand Prix and Sportscars, 6 decades of motorcycles will be on display between the Vintage Motor Cycle Club and the Classic Racing Motorcycle display as well as 6 decades of vintage aircraft arriving for display on the Sunday.
The extensive two-day timetable of action-packed racing will be complemented by a festival programme of activity for all ages and motoring interests in the centre of the circuit. Air displays, Classic Racing Motorcycle displays, Art/Photo Gallery, Trade Stalls, Club car displays, Period Fun Fair, BRDC 500 RetroRun, Children’s entertainment and the much enjoyed Scarf & Goggles with its live music will all be available to enjoy and soak up the atmosphere.
