To mark the 60th Anniversary of the end of WWII, and Silverstone as an operational wartime airfield, a legendary Spitfire will make an appearance at Sunday's BRDC Summer Races at Silverstone.
The 'warbird' will display in the skies over the track at approximately 1pm on Sunday afternoon - prior to the start of a packed ten-race programme.
The Spitfire will be joined in the demonstration by a WWII Alfa Romeo-engined Fiat aircraft, while earlier in the day hot air balloons will have lifted-off from the local circuit.
The BRDC Summer Races are being organised by the the Club Racing department of the Silverstone-based British Racing Drivers'Club, and Roger Lane-Nott, BRDC Club Secretary, said: "Our Summer Races are a great way to introduce yourself to motor racing if you have never been to Silverstone before. We have a varied race programme, with a major display of Clubmans racing cars. The Spitfire demonstration is sure to capture the interest - I personally can't wait."
Admission to Silverstone on Sunday costs just £10 for adults, with Children 15 and under admitted free of charge.
A souvenir programme costs an extra £2.50.
Track action starts with practice from 9am, and racing from 1.15pm.
Ends.
