The BRDC Marshals' Club is now entering its seventh year of operation. The Club is a branch of the British Racing Drivers' Club, which owns and operates Silverstone Circuits, the home of the British Grand Prix. The BRDC is an MSA registered motor club which organises most of the major race meetings at Silverstone Circuit and at many other circuits in the UK.
The aims and objectives of the BRDC Marshals' Club are as follows:
- to co-ordinate the recruitment of marshals and officials for BRDC race meetings and Emergency Services marshals for Silverstone race meetings.
- to co-ordinate the training and grading of marshals and officials for BRDC and Silverstone race meetings in order to further the professionalism and reputation of those officials.
- to represent the views of BRDC and Silverstone marshals and officials at all levels within the sport and in relation to various items of external legislation.
- to organise regular club social events for BRDC and Silverstone marshals to foster team spirit.
- to publish quarterly newsletters informing marshals and officials of developments within the BRDC and at Silverstone and general items of interest within the marshalling side of the sport.
- to offer items of specialist, club regalia and members discounts on a wide range of products to BRDC and Silverstone marshals.
The BRDC Marshals' Club is administered on a daily basis by Pam Dearn from the BRDC Race Office. Strategy and guidance for the development of the club is set by a Club Committee, which meets on a regular basis throughout the year, consisting of representatives of Silverstone Circuit, the BRDC Race Organisation and representatives of the various marshalling disciplines within the club.
The BRDC Marshals' Club does not operate as an exclusive club. Membership is open to all marshals and officials at BRDC/Silverstone race meetings and membership of other clubs, such as the British Motor Racing Marshals Club, BARC or BRSCC, is not precluded. Also, although we naturally hope that as many officials as possible join the BRDC Marshals' Club, nobody will be excluded from officiating at Silverstone or BRDC race meetings because they are not members of the club, although social activities will naturally be restricted to club members and their families.
Membership of the BRDC Marshals' Club costs £10.00 per annum. A special rate of £15.00 is available for Husband and Wife membership. This membership fee has been set up to enable the club to be self financing. While the British Racing Drivers' Club and Silverstone Circuits Ltd will continue their existing major commitment to supply financing and facilities for the benefit of officials, any revenue generated by the Club will be held and administered by the Club for the benefit of the members and their marshalling activities.
