Career Description

John Crouch started motor racing in 1937, winning the Waterfall Hill Climb of New South Wales driving an MG TA. That year he also drove an Alfa Romeo and Austin Alvis MG on the same course.

More success came in 1937 when he won the 1500cc Championship at the Penrith Speedway, NSW. He also won a 200 mile race at Brooklands and drove an Alvis Fraser Nash and MG Willis there.

In 1939 John drove an MG TA to 5th in the Australian GP held at the Mt Panorama circuit, Bathurst, NSW. He also drove a Le Mans Alfa Romeo at Louis Chiron. During this year he also scored eight lap records at the Sydney Sports Ground Speedway. In 1939/40 John won the Wanton Trophy for the fastest lap at the Interstate Gold Cup both years, driving a 2.3ltr Alfa Romeo. Also in 1959 John held the 150 mile record at the Leyburn Australian GP and driving a Delahaye 135 he finished 1st.

1950 saw John race a 1500 HRG at Miniootpa, South Australia and also in sprints and hill climbs. In fact he set some hill climb records in a MkIV and MkV TAP Vincent engined Cooper. These were at the Harbesbury, Cutt, Leura and Newcasle hill climbs, NSW.

He raced Coopers in Western Australia, Victoria and Bathurst and in1953 entered a 203 Peugeot in the around Australia Trial. John's last race was in 1954 in a Peugeot 203 at the Mt Druitt 24hrs, NSW.
