Bell, Bobby

Career Description

Bobby Bell entered his first race in 1962. It was at Brands Hatch in a Lotus 7, (which was his road car as well) and he finished 2nd. He continued Lotus 7 racing for 3 years and scored a good number of wins and top three placings. In 1964 he progressed onto a Lola Climax in which he contested the Guards Trophy series and again achieved class wins and places.

In 1965 he purchased a Piper Sports Racing car to run in the, up to 2 ltr class of Group 7 races. He competed with success in these International races for the next 3 seasons.

Bobby continued racing in 1972 with a BRM and then in 1974 a Trojan. Amongst other results he was overall winner of the BRDC Formula Libre Championship for two consequetive years.

In the mid '70's bobby moved to Historic Racing. This was with a Lister Jaguar and a single seater BRM which he continues to own to this day. He won the sports car class of the Lloyds and Scottish Championship in 1979 and was 2nd in the single seater classs in a Maserati 250F the following year. He began racing pre 1970 GT cars in the mid '80's - firstly a Chevron B8 then a B16, followed by a Lola T70. He won the class in the Failsafe GT Championship of 1985 with the T70 Lola..

Recently Bobby has only raced occasionally but was thrilled to win the 1994 Historic Tour de France in a Ford GT40. He raced his BRM twice last year and intends to continue into and beyond 2001 with his Alfa Romeo T33.
