1981 Jim Russell Racing School

1982 P & O Ferries FF1600 Championship - 2 wins. Van Dieman car with Rushen Green Racing - Ayrton Senna sorted car for me !

1983 European FF2000 Championship with Fulmar Racing driving Reynard. Advised and managed by Jonathen Palmer.

1984 British F3 with West Surrey Racing. Lap record Oulton Park. Driver of the Day at Donington. 9th in Championship.

1985 British F3 with Murray Taylor Racing. Wins at Thruxton and Zolder (open race).One pole position. 8th in Championship.

1986 Created own team 'GEM Motorsport' to compete in F3000 European Championship driving Lola Cosworth. Debut at Silverstone finishing 7th. Manager was David Luff.

1987 F3000 European Championship with 'GEM Motorsport' driving Ralt Cosworth. Manager was Andy Miller. 6th at Spa, Belgium. Acted as stand in for Nelson Piquet and Saturo Nakajima in Camel Lotus F1 advertisement film at Paul Ricard Circuit, France.

1988 F3000 European Championship with GEM Motorsport driving Ralt Cosworth and switched to Reynard Cosworth. Team principal was Sheridan Thynne and manager was Andy Miller. Team mates were Andy Wallace and Johnny Dumfries. At end of year sold team to Jackie Stewart and Paul Stewart Racing.

1989 F3000 European Championship with Madgwick Motorsport driving Reynard Cosworth. 5th at Enna, Sicily. Retired from racing. Proposed by Adrian Reynard to be a full member of BRDC.
