Career Description

Ross Jensen born in New Zealand and brought up on a farm out of Auckland adjacent to a pre-war oval circuit that gave birth to a group known as the N.Z.M.R.D.A (New Zealand Motor Racing Drivers Association) Nothing like F.O.C.A!!. Post war this became the Auckland Car Club and  in turn a small band of us decided on creating an arm of motor sport with the express purpose of promoting international events of Grand Prix standard and co-opting the interested areas of industry, civil bodies as well as government. The level of interest was spontaneous. The first intake of celebrated formula cars of that time was a real eye opener.  Great assistance and advice came to us from such august bodies such as R.A.C and our initial group were greatly impressed at the willingness of this support.  History shows that from these carefully managed endeavours we attracted so much potential (and known talent) from may places many of which became world champions both as drivers and constructors.  Jack Brabham, Keke Roseberg and our own Bruce McLaren (plus countless others).  By cutting their teeth in the antipodean season when Europe climatically put motorsport "on hold".  Speaking personally, by competing in truly international competition brought out the best in me both competively and technically (and others with me) were involved in a large learning curve to come abreast with the brilliant technology only thru immersing ones self in it.  As a result there are still many talented N Z technical personnel very entrenched in the top echelons of Formula One.  To accentuate the foregoing I was intrigued in 1958 that I could confront myself with a 250F Maserati purchased from Stirling Moss and arriving only 10 days before our Grand Prix and even with an excursion only failed to win by a few seconds behind J.B.  In the 4 race international series in 1958 our record was two wins and two seconds.  This overcame any doubts with the whole team that we were uncompetitive.  Such was the inspiration of this factor that we formed a driver to Europe scheme for promising young drivers and Bruce McLaren was our first nominee.  His record speaks for itself and for some time now Bruce's sister, myself (and others) are active in a formidable trust to make sure that heritage protects the soul of our sport and for one I value my lifes role pursuing its preservation in the same style as our beloved B.R.D.C
